The E Street Band's legendary saxaphonist Clarence "The Big Man" Clemons died last week at the age of 69, after complications from a stroke he suffered in early June.

The E Street Band’s legendary saxaphonist Clarence “The Big Man” Clemons died last week at the age of 69, after complications from a stroke he suffered in early June.

Most fans will remember him for his legendary solos on “Born To Run,” “Thunder Road,” and “Jungleland,” though the Big Man’s talents reached much farther as he collaborated with Jackson Browne, Aretha Franklin, Ringo Starr & The All-Starr Band, and even Lady Gaga. What’s more Clemons frequently sat in with the Grateful Dead and their members, even as recently as April 2011. The video below features Clemons with the Grateful Dead in 1989 playing “Iko Iko (Jock-A-Mo).”

Bruce Springsteen released the following statement:

Clarence lived a wonderful life. He carried within him a love of people that made them love him. He created a wondrous and extended family. He loved the saxophone, loved our fans and gave everything he had every night he stepped on stage. His loss is immeasurable and we are honored and thankful to have known him and had the opportunity to stand beside him for nearly forty years. He was my great friend, my partner and with Clarence at my side, my band and I were able to tell a story far deeper than those simply contained in our music. His life, his memory, and his love will live on in that story and in our band.

The 15th annual Electric Daisy Carnival will peak this weekend June 24-26 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway with over 200 performers and an expected audience exceeding 250,000.

The 15th annual Electric Daisy Carnival will peak this weekend June 24-26 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway with over 200 performers and an expected audience exceeding 250,000. Held in five different locations throughout 2011, EDC Las Vegas is the first to extend to three nights, making it North America’s largest electronic music festival.

Last week, Insomniac Events released the artist lineup and stage schedules.

Despite problems associated with EDC Los Angeles 2010, including the death of a 15-year-old, Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman gave the festival an enthusiastic endorsement Thursday during his weekly news conference at City Hall. He even indicated he might show up at the event, which was essentially banned from Los Angeles.

“It’s going to be phenomenal,” Goodman said, “We’re going to declare June 20-26 Electric Daisy Carnival Week in Las Vegas and ask all of our citizens to support this monumental event.”

Goodman said the three-day festival will provide a carnival-like atmosphere, featuring dancers, fire twirlers, aerialists and stilt walkers, plus 28 carnival rides and attractions.

At the news conference, Goodman introduced Pasquale Rotella, the CEO and founder of Insomniac Events. Mayor Goodman praised Rotella for bringing the opportunity to Las Vegas, and for contributing to the community by donating $1 for each ticket and $10 from each guest list attendee to Las Vegas charitable organizations including the Clark County School-Community Partnership Program, The Smith Center for the Performing Arts and the Las Vegas Injured Police Officers Fund.

“I’m thrilled with the talent we have confirmed for this year’s Electric Daisy,” said Rotella. “We have world renowned artists combined with ambitious up-and-comers who will create a memorable soundtrack for our fans’ weekend-long festival experience.”

The 1,000-acre complex will be transformed into a fully immersed audiovisual experience as 13 large-scale art installations will create their own interactive environments amidst the six stages, along with state-of-the-art lighting and sound production. Attendees will also get to experience the most impressive pyrotechnics display in Insomniac’s history, featuring a 15-minute fireworks display each night.

“EDC is a lot more than a music festival,” Rotella said. “There’s a lot going on aside from the international performers that we have coming on the stages. We have a lot of theatrical performers and walkabouts throughout the festival. And art is a big part of this festival.”

After two satisfying sets at Summer Camp Festival, Papadosio headed south to Wakarusa, but not before revealing the first leg of their fall 2011 tour.

After two satisfying sets at Summer Camp Festival, Papadosio headed south to Wakarusa, but not before revealing the first leg of their fall 2011 tour. Just three years young, Papadosio has quickly becoming the groundbreaking live electronica act to see. With new tracks and fresh visuals, Papadosio will hit favorite venues along with a list of new ones. Their tour kicks off September 8 at the Recher Theater in Towson, Maryland. They have a two month, 22-stop tour planned with dates along the East Coast and into the Midwest. Openers are to be announced in the coming months.

Hailing from Athens Ohio, Papadosio is best known as a jam band, but has the talent to create original, cutting edge music that spans all genres. Their lives shows are a spectacle of sound ranging from traditional jams to high energy electronica. They’re all about unexpected combinations. Breaks of jazz, rock, and dubstep, vocal harmonies, and improvisational interludes, they exemplify a unique and original approach to every song created or performed.

If you can’t wait until fall, fans can anticipate a massive amount of festival appearances this summer, including stops at Electric Forest Festival, Camp Bisco, All Good Music Festival, The Big Up, FloydFest, Jam at the Grove, Camp Barefoot 5, and Head Jamz Music Festival.

And if playing almost every major festival wasn’t enough, summer 2011 comes with the second incarnation of Rootwire Music and Arts Festival, Papadosio’s own festival. Rootwire is set to take place at Kaeppner’s Woods, in Logan, Ohio, August 4 -7. Brought to you directly by the members of Papadosio, Rootwire will showcase the nation’s best up and coming transcendental artists and visual acts. For more information, head to Rootwire’s official website.

Anchored again by 3 nights of DSO.

Nelson Ledges Quarry Park has revealed the initial lineup for its 12th annual Grateful Fest taking place over 4th of July weekend.

Nestled in the woods of Northeast Ohio, Nelson Ledges Quarry Park is Ohio’s premiere summer destination for music lovers. Free-for-all camping in the shaded woods surrounding the quarry is one of the most relaxing and comfortable places to camp, especially at a festival.

The 12th annual edition of the festival will again be lead by three nights of Dark Star Orchestra. Joining DSO will be festival circuit mainstays Keller Williams, Railroad Earth, BoomBox, New Riders Of The Purple Sage, and Rusted Root.

A few members of Ohio’s own Ekoostik Hookah will be their with their side projects as well; Steve Sweney with Spike Drivers and Dave Katz with Katz-n-Jammers.

Additional acts and ticket information is coming soon so be sure to check back with us for updates.

The first of four documentaries chronicling the recording process has been released as well.

The Disco Biscuits will release their sixth studio album this summer titled Otherwise Law Abiding Citizens.

The new album will feature numerous road tested songs which many fans may already be familiar with; however, it is always nice to have a tight studio version of your favorite live jam.

Unlike 2010′s Planet Anthem, the new album was recorded almost entirely live in the studio in a short two week span near the end of the year. The recording process which took place at Studio 4 in Pennsylvania was documented by band friend Jesse R. Borrell of NoCoast.TV and will be released as a series of videos.

The first of four documentaries is now available on tDB’s recently redesigned website. Check it out below.

The 2011 lineup also features Ohio jam titans Ekoostik Hookah and genre blending pros Great American Taxi.

The 2011 Hoxeyville Music Festival has released its initial lineup which is topped by HotLikeSauce faves Umphrey’s McGee, bluegrass jammers Greensky Bluegrass, and funk masters Dumpstaphunk.

The festival is set to return to Michigan’s beautiful Manistee National Forest in Wellston, MI from August 19th through 21st.

Last year the festival played an integral part in filling the void left by the Rothbury Festival for those living close to Michigan. 2010′s lineup boasted the Rhythm Devils, Keller Williams, The New Deal, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, Steve Kimock & Crazy Engine, and many more exceptional jam circuit acts.

In addition to this year’s headliners of Umphrey’s, Greensky, and Dumpstaphunk, the 2011 lineup also features Ohio jam titans Ekoostik Hookah and genre blending pros Great American Taxi, both of which can put on one hell of a show.

Hoxeyville has also tapped some of Michigans own local talent including The Ragbirds, The Macpodz, and Steppin’ In It.

Check out the entire initial lineup below and head to the official website for all the info.
