Thanks to the good folks over at Street Shimon I came into a few free tickets to this weekend’s Catskill Chill in Hancock, NY. Even with such short notice I was able to pull together a small crew to make the trek to New York with.
In its inaugural year the Catskill Chill Music Festival grabbed a small but impressive lineup and a beautiful location at Camp Minglewood in New York. Headlining the two day festival will be Soulive on Friday night while Keller Williams will hold down Saturday night. A litany of high caliber supporting acts include The New Mastersounds, Easy Star All-Stars, Particle, Toubab Krewe, Future Rock, Passafire, The Heavy Pets, and Brothers Past.
I’ve pulled together some great live videos from a few of the acts to show whats in store. Enjoy.
Soulive
These jazz-funk fusion masters hailing from Buffalo, NY know how to put on one hell of a live show. Mixing elements of jazz, funk, soul, and rock Soulive creates a captivating energetic sound. Check out their song “Flurries” below.
Keller Williams
The ultimate one man jam band master manages to captivate even the largest crowds all by himself. Utilizing looping, whistling, frantic picking, and anything else he can think of K-Dub manages to create as much sound as a full band. Check him out below looping his song “Freaker By The Speaker.”
The New Mastersounds
These Brits bring the funk so hard you can almost smell it. After catching the tail end of their impressive show at this year’s All Good Festival I can’t wait to see a full set. Check out their song “Thirty Three” below.
Easy Star All-Stars
This NYC based group is known for their uncanny ability to take classic albums and turn them into classic dub/reggae albums. This weekend they are sure to pull out some reggae covers of classic songs from their three full length cover albums Dub Side Of The Moon (Dark Side Of The Moon), Radiodread (OK Computer), and Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Dub Band (Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band). Check out their impressive version of “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds” below.
Particle
Currently on their 10th anniversary tour, this electronic band hailing from California has recently reunited with their original guitarist Charlie Hitchcock. After witnessing them at Gory At The Quarry back in 2007 I’ve become quite a fan and can’t wait for a great late night set. Below, check out “W” featuring Joe Satriani, as well as DJ Logic who is also on this weekend’s lineup.
Toubab Krewe
Fusing Mali and Southern American music styles Toubab Krewe creates a truly unique sound. After catching them at Rothbury ’09 and listening to their new studio album TK2 I can’t wait for what is sure to be a great set. Check out the jam “Sirens” from Bonnaroo ’09 below.
Passafire
This reggae rock band who have toured with the likes of Pepper and The Expendables have been on my “To See” list for quite some time now. Check out this rockin’ video of “Leave The Lights On” below.
The Heavy Pets
This up and coming jam band delivers a soulful funky show that I unfortunately missed out on at All Good this year. Definitely won’t be missing their late night set this weekend however. Check out an awesome video of the soulful “Help Me, Help You” into the funky “Girl You Make Me Stupid.”
