HBO’s latest war mini-series, The Pacific, premieres next Sunday, March 14th. Following the critically acclaimed Band of Brothers and Generation Kill, The Pacifc focuses on the Pacific Theatre of World War II. Although similar to Band of Brothers, it will focus on the Marine Corps’ efforts in the Pacific Theatre rather than the Army in the European Theatre. The characters and plot will be unrelated beyond the historical facts of WWII.
Bruce McKenna is heading the project along with by Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks, and Gary Goetzman, all of whom worked together as producers on Band of Brothers. Hugh Ambrose, the son of Band of Brothers author Stephen Ambrose, also served as a project consultant. The majority of filming took place in various locations throughout Australia between August 2007 and May 2008.
